The Reading is a feature film written and directed by Courtney Glaudé, presented by Lee Daniels, and released by BET/Paramount. Origin Point Productions managed the film's editorial from assembly through final delivery while producing more than 300 visual effects shots across the feature.
The visual effects combined invisible enhancements with story-driven effects work, including extensive cleanup, digital makeup, screen replacements, blood and gore simulations, CG integration, and practical problem solving. One recurring challenge involved digitally removing the primary antagonist's missing finger throughout the film to maintain continuity after the character's injury is established early in the story. Additional work included creating a fully CG wolf concealed beneath a sheep's fleece and numerous subtle effects designed to support the narrative without drawing attention to the visual effects themselves.
Following its release, The Reading became one of BET+'s most successful streaming films, remaining among the platform's top-performing titles for multiple years before expanding to Paramount+.
